Our Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is foundational to how SURR is built and how it will operate. From wave technology to construction materials, every detail is considered through the lens of long-term environmental stewardship. We’re shaping a surf destination designed to contribute—responsibly, intentionally, and for the future.
🌊 Water Responsibility
SURR is designed with intelligent water stewardship at its core. The entire lagoon operates on a closed-loop system—engineered to retain, filter, and recirculate the same water with minimal loss. Unlike traditional pools or water parks that rely on continuous water exchange, our system prioritizes conservation through precision management.
Through advanced filtration and treatment processes, SURR will maintain exceptional water quality while dramatically reducing waste. The system is supported by real-time monitoring and data tracking to optimize water use year-round.
SURR is designed to use substantially less water than a typical golf course or water park, with advanced retention and filtration infrastructure to minimize loss and maximize reuse.
⚡ Energy Efficiency
SURR will be powered by Wavegarden Cove—proven to be the most energy-efficient wave generation system in the industry. This electromechanical technology uses direct-drive motors to push wave-generating paddles, eliminating the inefficiencies found in traditional pneumatic systems.
- Up to 10x less energy consumption compared to blower-based systems
- Energy regeneration during paddle return motion
- Negligible standby power use between wave sets
- Capable of delivering 280–400 barreling waves per hour
Real data from operational Wavegarden surf parks shows energy consumption between 250–450 kWh per hour, with future installations integrating solar power and custom Energy Management Systems to offset grid usage by up to 50%.
Wavegarden’s total operating energy can be less than a single ski resort chairlift. With smart energy systems, surf parks like SURR can become leaders in low-impact recreation.
🌱 Sustainable Design
SURR is designed to respect the land it sits on. Every phase of planning, construction, and operation has been shaped to reduce impact and extend the park’s longevity—from low-carbon materials to intelligent spatial design.
- Use of durable, low-emission materials
- Drought-resistant native landscaping
- Stormwater control integrated into site topography
- Infrastructure ready for solar, battery, and water-efficient systems
Our vision is to build not only responsibly—but beautifully, intentionally, and with foresight.
🐠 Ecological Preservation
SURR goes beyond minimizing damage—we aim to enhance the ecosystems we inhabit. The site plan includes habitat buffer zones, soil-preserving construction methods, and biodiversity integration into the physical layout.
- No disruption to wetlands or critical habitats
- Support for pollinators and native species through landscaping
- Educational signage highlighting local ecology
SURR will be a place where performance and preservation coexist, creating an immersive outdoor experience grounded in nature.
♻️ Waste & Resource Circularity
SURR operates on circular principles: reduce, reuse, and regenerate. From the ground up, our systems are built to eliminate waste and rethink inputs as resources.
- Construction phase targets 80%+ diversion from landfill
- Zero single-use plastics on-site
- Full recycling and composting program for all park guests
- Vendor policies for reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable packaging
Our goal is to design waste out of the system and build a park that reflects the circular economy we believe in.
💙 Community & Climate Collaboration
Sustainability is a shared mission. SURR will serve as a platform for climate engagement, surf education, and environmental partnerships. We’ll collaborate with regional organizations, schools, and surf communities to amplify impact and foster awareness.
- School outreach and eco-education events
- Surf + sustainability camp partnerships
- Cleanups, donation drives, and research access for local universities
SURR exists to inspire and engage—not just to perform. The better future we envision is one we build with others.
The Future of Surf, Responsibly Built
We believe surf parks can be part of the solution. As we continue building SURR, we’re committed to innovation, environmental integrity, and setting a new standard for sustainable performance.
